Smooth TV to launch on Foxtel

DMG plans to extend its Smooth radio brand to pay tv with the creation of a channel on Foxtel.

The channel will play easy listening music videos from artists programmed on the radio channel, and will allow DMG to offer a multi-platform sales strategy to advertisers.

The network plans to produce long-form programming and advertiser-funded content.

Group Program Director Paul Jackson says: “After only 17 months in the radio landscape, smoothfm has exceeded expectations and targets as more listeners discover the station. This is a fantastic opportunity, a unique partnership between smoothfm and Foxtel to launch smoothfm’s new channel that really underlines the strength of the easy listening format.”

Smooth on Foxtel will feature the highly successful adult contemporary music synonymous with smoothfm, with a with a range of programming such as countdowns, concert specials and music videos from iconic artists such as Madonna, Michael Bublè, Adele, Whitney Houston, Fleetwood Mac, Robbie Williams, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey.”

smoothfm launched as a distinct easy listening station on 21 May 2012 and is radio’s fastest growing brand with over a 1 million listeners in Sydney and Melbourne and substantial growth in all day parts and across all demographics. The channel went national on digital radio in February this year.

smoothfm’s play list is not anchored in a specific era, it is programmed to create a broad target and mass audience appeal, with the greatest artists, classic or contemporary.
