smoothfm extends nationally on digital radio

smoothfm will be heard in Australia’s five capital cities on DAB+ Radio from today, Valentines Day, Thursday 14 February.

dmg launched smoothfm 95.3 in Sydney and smoothfm 91.5 in Melbourne as a distinctive and unique, soft easy listening format on 21st May last year.

With the coverage now extended, listeners in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide will be able to experience the format in their cities digital radio and via on-line streaming and iphone app.

smooth will replace NovaNation on digital in Perth and Adelaide, but NovaNation will still be available to listeners in those cities online and via the app.

In Brisbane, where more digital bandwidth was available, NovaNation will remain on air and all three dmg stations, Koffee, NovaNation and smooth, will be head. Koffee is heard in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, but has never been available on digital radio in Perth.

Group Program Director Paul Jackson has told radioinfo:

“We are delighted with the rapid success of smoothfm in Sydney and Melbourne. It was always our intention to create a national brand for both our listeners and clients. We regularly get emails asking how listeners can hear smoothfm outside of Melbourne and Sydney so we are looking forward to extending smoothfm’s unique and distinctive format into five capital cities.”

Announcers Mike Perso, Ed Phillips, Ty Frost, Bogart Torelli and David Reyne will be heard weekdays from 9am after an unannounced breakfast show. Most shifts will be voice tracked in unique shows for the digital radio service, not relayed live from their local shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
