Somewhere below two jocks have vowed to stay on air come hell or high water

Likely to be both when the full force of Cyclone Rusty hits Hedland

Armed with nothing but a microphone and a transmitter (that they are hoping will withstand the elements) our intrepid pair of jocks, Robbie Klitzing and Sebba Claassen are hunkered down inside Spirit 1026 determined to do whatever it takes to keep broadcasting around the clock to ensure their community stays informed and in touch.

Writing exclusively for radioinfo readers after spending the night on a sofa bed in the studio, here’s Sebba’s second report from the eye of the storm…

We are just tightening all the bolts now and bracing ourselves.

Cyclone Rusty is still moving slowly but surely towards us gathering momentum. The wind and rain have really picked up and its going to be interesting to see how long before our main power cuts out and we have switch over to the generator.

We also have a back up plan in place if the transmission signal cuts out, but fingers crossed it wont get to that stage.

It was a long first night. I slept on what was probably a 20 year old sofa bed. Big steel bar running straight down the middle of my back all night and Robbie used both of the seat cushions and made a bed on the floor. Thankfully the weather is still quite humid in Hedland so it wasn’t too cold in what would normally be a drafty studio.

We’ve resumed normal programming on our daily shows but we’ll still be running 24 hours at least until tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. Robbe 6-11 and Sebba 11-4

It’s still way too dangerous to go outside on Red Alert so we haven’t had a chance to take many photos just yet.

Our facebook page is also getting lots of hits and is now an important tool in our Cyclone Broadcast.
