South Australian teen George Alice wins Unearthed High 2019

triple j’s Ben & Liam snuck into Faith Lutheran College in South Australia to surprise year 11 student George Alice with some lifechanging news, that the 16-year-old solo artist had won triple j’s Unearthed High competition for 2019.
George Alice uploaded her debut single ‘Circles’ to Unearthed High and the triple j Unearthed team was impressed with the quality of her song writing and it comes as no surprise that the remarkable teen has been writing original music and honing her craft since she was eleven years old.
Her skilful pop song writing has now scored her a place among Unearthed High alumni including Gretta Ray, KIAN, Arno Faraji, Japanese Wallpaper and more.
triple j Unearthed Music Director, Dave Ruby Howe, says “In a wickedly competitive field this year, South Australian student George Alice made her voice heard with, well, that voice! After discovering her debut track ‘Circles’ in the 2019 Unearthed High campaign it’s been impossible to dislodge the way she sings that circular refrain from our heads. In George Alice we’ve found a prolific performer and writer, and we reckon that this 16-year-old is ready for very big things.”
George Alice’s prize includes being flown to triple j to record, mix and master her music, which will be played on triple j and triple j Unearthed. She’ll also be linked up with a musical mentor and she’ll find out who that is when she joins Veronica & Lewis from 3pm today.
