Spotlight on Triple M Adelaide

Two Adelaide on-air personalities are profiled in the current Media Week “Inside Radio” section.

Sheridan Stewart has been with Austereo for most of her radio career. She’d been at 2GN for just eight months when she got a job at FoxFM. After various Today Network stations she settled at Triple M in Adelaide. She’s been with them for ten years next March except for a few months when she switched to SAFM currently presenting weekdays 9am – noon.

“Most of my time at Triple M was spent hosting drive,” she tells Media Week. “When I first arrived in Adelaide Triple M was re-launched as kick-ass rock station and I’m a total rock-chick.”

Her pedigree as a rock-chick grew from her all-girl teenage heavy metal band.

“When I started in radio there weren’t many women so I didn’t have any role models. The other woman who’s been successful was Cathy Dinn who’s also in Adelaide who just moved from nights to drive. Triple M has a very heavy female line-up now which is brilliant.”

Like Sheridan Stewart, John Blackman also started his career in Goulburn. His co-hosting role which began in July on Adelaide’s Triple M marks his return to breakfast radio and the first time on an FM station.

“My agent originally called me to see if I could do a couple of shifts with Andrew ‘Cossi’ Costello and Scott McBain,” he tells Media Week. “When we developed a rapport with each other they tried us in drive for eight weeks before they then sent us into breakfast.”

Blackman says the show covers all demos with the three hosts aged in their 20’s, 30’s and 50’s. He works from his Melbourne home studio but travels to Adelaide several times a month.

Although he says they won’t know how the show is going until maybe Survey 2, 2006 he added: “If there’s any rating rise next Tuesday we’re going to claim it! If it drops we’ll just blame The Cage.”
