As stages go dark in Brisbane, B105 will celebrate the city’s favourite show tunes

Brisbane’s stages may be dark and silent right now as the city works through the latest lockdown, but that doesn’t mean that the greatest showtunes of all time can’t be celebrated, and that’s just what B105 is doing this week.

In a move that sees the station throw away their playlist, B105 Content Director, Jack Ball, says that tomorrow, Thursday, B105 will count down the 50 best showtunes of all time, as voted by Brisbane!

Jack says, “We know that all shows in Brisbane have had to close, including Come From Away, which had its opening night on Sunday, so we are determined to celebrate the magic of musicals and theatre on air by finding Brisbane’s favourite showtunes.

“The trouble is, what IS the best showtune of all time? It’s a question as old as time …”

He said to expect a handful of Hamilton bangers after the international hit opened in Sydney last week, with Australia now the only country in the world where the production is playing.

“Yes, you’ll need to be ‘in the room when it happens’ this Thursday because B105 is not throwing away their shot! Excuse the Hamilton puns!”

Huge hits from some of the best musical and stage shows of all time will be aired, think Chicago, Moulin Rouge, Hairspray, Book of Mormon, Rent, Les Misérables, Wicked, Dreamgirls, Jersey Boys, Cats, Mamma Mia and The Lion King just to name a few.

Will it be:

  • Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia or The Winner Takes It All from Mamma Mia?
  • Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata or Can You Feel The Love Tonight from The Lion King?
  • You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray?
  • The Room Where It Happens or My Shot from Hamilton?
  • December, 1963 (Oh What a Night), Can’t Take My Eyes Off You or Bye Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye) from Jersey Boys?
  • Cell Block Tango, All That Jazz or When You’re Good To Mama from Chicago?
  • Elephant Love Medley or Your Song from Moulin Rouge?
  • Hello from Book of Mormon?
  • Seasons of Love or Take Me or Leave Me from Rent?
  • One Day More, Do You Hear the People Sing or I Dreamed A Dream from Les Misérables?
  • Defying Gravity or For Good to Popular from Wicked?
  • And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going from Dreamgirls?
  • …the list goes on
