Star 104.5 welcomes Felix the sports guy to the newsroom

Craig & Mandy and Breakfast newsreader Sacha have welcomed young sport enthusiast Felix Bennett to contribute to the show on Star104.5 on the Central Coast.

Felix is a 22 year old man who loves all things sport, from watching it to researching it. Every morning from 6am young Felix is tuning up the three (yes, THREE!) digital radios in his bedroom to sports news bulletins across the state.

Felix also has Cerebral Palsy. Through disability support group Ability Links, we have been able to give Felix the opportunity to contribute to daily sports news.

A few days ago, Felix headed into the studios to have a look around and check out what happens behind the scenes. His mother, Dimity, says Felix was ecstatic to meet breakfast hosts Craig and Mandy, and newsreader Sacha. “He hasn’t stopped talking about it since we left,” said Dimity. “He’s so excited.”

Felix sent through his first sport report the next day, and it was featured on the news that morning.

He’ll continue to send his sports stories to Sacha in the newsroom, who says it’s a big help to her. “It’s so great to be getting well-researched stories from Felix,” she says. “It’s making my job a whole lot easier!”

Rene McKenzie-Low, Felix’s linker, says he hopes to one day work in the fast-paced world of sports radio and we reckon that he’s not far off now that he has his foot in the door.
