John Summerton is retiring this week following 23 years as general manager of PowerFM/2ST Nowra on the NSW south coast.

“Summo” has been in the industry for almost 50 years and one of his career highlights was the launch of Wollongong station 2-Double-O, which is now i98FM.

A function was held for him with staff and former colleagues and he says he wants to retire to spend time travelling with his wife Ann-Maree.

Grant Broadcasters Group Program DIrector David Rogerson has shared old photos on his facebook page and offers this tribute:

“Cheers in retirement to John Summerton – without him hiring a great team that included me to get 2 Double – O Wollongong on air in 1979 I’d have never experienced what it’s like to launch a brand new radio station.”
