The two SCA stations in the Xtra Insights survey of Central Queensland, from Rockhampton to Mount Murchison to Gladstone, Hit and Triple M, were far and away the preferred in the region but with a massive surge from Triple M to overtake Hit in most dayparts.
Bronte and Lakey on Hit held No 1 (28.3% preferred – down 5.9) against Pinky & Macca (pictured) on Triple M (27.6 – up 8.3). The former were sacked a week ago. Shannon ‘Pinky’ Neven is up to 11 years with Triple M Central Queensland, and was joined by Matthew “Macca” McDonald a year ago, with this survey showing the yields of that decision.
This was also a good survey for the two ARN stations, 4RO and 4CC. While they are a long way behind the SCA pair, 4RO increased listeners in every day part, but particularly for John Stanley on Nights. 4CC was the same, with Karina on Afternoons the most improved there.
Outside of Hit’s listener losses, the next most affected were ABC Capricornia and triple j. The local ABC fell behind 4CC for all listeners 10+ this survey too.
The cumes for Triple M were particularly impressive. Near 20,000 extra checking out the station and more than that Pinky and Macca on breakfast.
Phil Bradley, Head of Triple M Regional Content said:
“Today’s results are a strong affirmation of what Pinky and Macca have created since coming together in August 2025. The team have built a strong connection with Central Queensland audiences by never losing sight of what matters to locals. Combined with Pinky’s long-standing presence in the market, Triple M breakfast delivers the familiarity, humour and local engagement that regional audiences value every morning.
“Pinky and Macca have created genuine local moments that Central Queensland want to be part of, earning them an extra 24,400 listeners. It’s a real privilege to be part of helping CQ start their day with a smile.”
Jase Allen, Head of HIT Regional Content said:
“Today is a fantastic result for our Hit Central Queensland team. Securing the Number 1 station in the all important ‘Audience That Matters’, people 25-54, proves the connection the Hit brand has with our local listeners and community. Congratulations to Jacob Brown, our local workday announcer and the entire Hit team on today’s results.”
