SYN’s coldest 100 countdown

In a move to counter that other youth network’s well known countdown, Melbourne youth community station SYN 90.7fm is launching its first Coldest 100 Countdown. The countdown of the top 100 songs you never hear on radio anymore will be broadcast on Saturday February 6th.

While some stations are trying to be the cool kids with lists of the most popular hipster tracks, Syn says it just wants to “have a laugh and get our daggy early-2000s compilations out of our fluoro CD wallets.”

Voting so far has shown competition between songs such as OMC’s How Bizarre, Happyland’s Don’t you know who I am? and George Harrison’s ‘I got my mind set on you.’ Songs you might hear and say “Oh yeah! I forgot about that song.”

Listeners can still vote for their top 10 songs all the way up to February 1st by emailing their list to [email protected]

SYN prides itself on its individuality, boasting nightly genre music (including Asian Pop and Hip Hop), a regular youth sex & relationships program and all presenters being volunteers and under the age of 26.

The Coldest 100 Countdown will kick-off at 9am on Saturday Feb 6th and will run all day. The station is urging listeners to “set up your barbecues, and prepare for a day of music that hasn’t been forcefed to you all year.”

Meanwhile, that other countdown, triple j’s Hottest 100 has broken all records for voting for the Tuesday 26th Jan countdown broadcast.

The station received 1.1 million votes (up 46% from last year) by 131,000 voters (up by 30%). There are 3000 private parties and 300 licensed venues already signed up to hold official Hottest 100 events while the countdown is on from midday on Australia Day.
