Technical boom at Radio Sudan

Five days ago the senior new editors of Sudan Radio began a course to improve their skills in editing news and repacking content for new forms of radio. The  course, led by the Australian expert Steve Ahern,  one of the famous professionals in the arena of mass media, focused on how to use multi platform in broadcasting  to facilitate the challenge facing radio as the modern media. “The expert show us practically how to use high technique to make broadcasting more attractively, effectively, efficiently and more friendly to the audience,” said Entisar, one of the participants.

The trainees have implemented very nice computerized assignments that reflect  the preparedness of the staff for the coming future when the radio will be available on digital radio. But the skills are also usable right now, because we are capable to use web sites to put our material on line, which we define as streaming, to overcome  the barriers of distances and new places of listening, reports Sudan Radio’s  ABDEL WAHAB SALIH

“During the course also we have been taught how to upload pictures and audio, with text, and we were exposed to the software enabling us to perform properly when processing and editing our reports,” commented another participant Khalil.

The Director General of Sudan Radio, Mr Motasim Fudal (pictured) is very keen to keep the skills of his staff upgraded and to acquiant them with up date to advanced technology.

“Really, when we thought the technology is rapidly every year, month, in fact every day, we decided that Sudan Radio should not lag behind, even if it is one of the oldest radio stations in Africa.”

“The radio of Omdurmn (Sudan) is one of the oldest radio in the continent of Africa and Arab area, with a rich documentary program, representing the diversity of the people of Sudan, cultural, social, political and historical. This heritage is now being computerized and saved for the future.”

In an interview with Hassan Moustafa, the IT Head in charge of development of new media, he said: “We are keen on preserving Sudan’s heritage and we have in this station many archives from past generations that were recorded. We have begun to archive all this previous material in digital. The electronic Archives is one of the great projects of the Sudan Radio.”
