The 2CC Originals celebrate 50 years of the Canberra radio station

At 7am on October 31 in 1975, 50 years to the minute that it first launched, a group of the Originals including inaugural General Manager Nick Erby, gathered at 2CC‘s new address of Bellenden St Crace to mark the Canberra station’s milestone.

Current 2CC Chief Operating Officer Michael Jones put on an early morning barbecue for the special guests as well as a tour of the building before the 50 plus contingent continued the celebrations, stories and memorabilia at Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club.

The then PD Rob McKay said:

“I only realised over the weekend how many young aspirants I employed. I am not sure if I was looking for cheap labour or budding talent! The latter prevailed. I can think of you, Brendan Forde, Bill Slocum, Peter Simons, Trevor Sinclair – plus others that my old, fading memory eludes. My philosophy was to hire young people with enthusiasm and attitude. You can teach skills, but enthusiasm innate!”
