Despite Ford reversing the decsion to ditch AM, that is only one manufacturer.
The bipartisan legislation is still needed especially if AM is used as the emergency band and AM is used for spoken word programs.
The stories used to justify removing AM on the basis of electrical interference from discharging EV batteries is pure bull$*#t.
Discharging a battery does not cause electromagnetic interference. It is the sparks from the EV motor's commutator.
Then an continuously alternator generating power in conventional cars nor sparks from a combustion engine's spark plugs has never caused problems with AM reception.
Moreover KIA said that there was no issue with AM reception in their EVs.
Relying on IP streaming of radio in the car is fine if you live in a metropolitan area and can afford a data plan.
However, IP streaming may not be suitable in rural areas where mobile coverage is scant or poor.
In summary don't believe the spin by manufacturers when it comes to ditching AM and even FM.
