After the water cooler discussion and household banter around triple j’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs the logical next step was to find the best way to add merchandise, especially now the Hottest 100 CDs have been discontinued.
The end result was a tea towel. But not a tea towel with the nationally voted Hottest 100. This tea towel would include you own personal Hottest 100 of Australian songs.
But before you click the link above, they have already sold out.
Imagine that! A radio and music related, personalised tea towel has sold out. I have worked at stations where the only thing left in the prize cupboard were station tea towels and stubby coolers.
At $24.99 the tea towel was not a lot less expensive than the CDs used to be. One has longevity for your ears, the other for your hands as you use it to pull the lasagne from the oven. Or perhaps, because it is personalised, flecks of passata and mozzarella will never grace its edges.
I’m caught somewhere between bemused, tickled and disappointed (because I missed out) at the concept. But for whoever floated the idea post countdown, I doff my hat to you.
