Top 50 Autralian singers’ singers named

No guesses who topped the Top 50. Given Australia’s fascination with lists, no doubt many radio presenters will want discuss News.com.au’s ranking of Australia’s Greatest Singers of all time as chosen by their peers.

It is unlikely that many will argue with the great John Farnham’s position at Number One. But arguments could break out over the next 49, depending on which generation you’re talking to.

At #2 on the list compiled by National Music Writer, Cameron Adams, is AC/DC’s original front man Bon Scott.

Other interesting positions were taken by Nick Cave at 17, Katie Noonan at 19 and Gurrumul at 20.

Kate Ceberano’s voice was only good enough for 32nd place while Dragon’s lead singer, the late Marc Hunter edged into 43rd and the legendary Billy Thorpe could only manage 49th.

Rounding out the 50 is Jon Stevens.
