Earlier this year triple j began a search for Australia’s best High School music act. 860 entries and many hours of listening later, they found their 2012 Unearthed High winner – Asta from Rosny College in Hobart.
The winner was selected with reference to the opinions of a panel of triple j and triple j Unearthed representatives (including Dave Ruby Howe, Richard Kingsmill and Dom Alessio), statistics from the Unearthed website, and the SMS line on triple j.
Asta’s song, My Heart is On Fire won the panel over, with its allusions to Australian musicians Sia, Ladyhawke and Owl Eyes.
As part of her prize, Asta will be flown to triple j in Sydney to have her track professionally recorded by ARIA award winning producer Greg Wales, which will then be played on triple j and the triple j Unearthed digital station.
Asta will also perform a lunchtime concert for her schoolmates, supporting hip-hop musicians Bliss n Eso.
triple j Unearthed Music Director DaveRuby Howe said, ‘In a field of six finalists – and four other solo acts – Asta asserted her individual spark with an infectious mixture of smoky crooning and effortless pop production that just hits the ear-candy spot instantaneously.’
