triple j‘s breakfast presenters Concetta and Luka have announced the five finalists for this year’s Unearthed High from an incredible1,127 entries from high school-aged artists all around Australia.
They are:
Sydney NSW
It’s impressive enough that Chris Vincent‘s vocals are angel-coded, but he backs it up with a bag full of adventurous ideas and a mix of classic and current referent points. Smoosh it together and it’s got that rare quality of being playfully DIY but also headliner-ready.
Sunshine Coast QLD
By virtue of busking around the Sunshine Coast this sibling duo has a sunny sweet tooth in their sound; not to mention memorable hooks that grab your attention. On this debut upload they’ve smartly snuck in some apocalyptic lyrics beneath a youthful indie pop glow.
Mariae Cassandra – ‘Million Billion Trillion’
Perth WA
Cut from the same handmade cloth as acts like Clairo and beabadoobee, WA’s Mariae Cassandra is a storytelling specialist. It’s bittersweet pop that’s often scarily relatable, and always full of personality.
Sydney NSW
Rising Sydney star ThatGurlBella has been on the Unearthed radar since entering Unearthed High at just 15. A couple of years on we reckon she’s ready for the big time. Bella’s already linked up for early live shows with names like JK-47, Pania, Miss Kaninna and more.
Perth WA
This WA youngblood is bringing the super-powered bars guaranteed to save your day with good vibes. It’s a a slick display of charisma and lyrical energy.
triple j Unearthed Music Director, Dave Ruby Howe said of the talent on display this year:
“We couldn’t be more stoked with this year’s Unearthed High cohort. Even before we reached this end stage it felt like 2024 was gonna be special with young artists from all across the country showing off their creativity and remarkable talent. These five finalists show just how strong the field was and are certified future stars of the Australian music scene.”

The winner receives a songwriting session with their choice of Australian artists – Cosmo’s Midnight, Kobie Dee, Peach PRC or Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers as well as flights and accommodation to attend songwriting sessions, mentorship and support from artist and industry experts. There is additionally an Indigenous Initiative Winner who will get a songwriting workshop at their school thanks to APRA AMCOS‘ Songmaker Program.
