Triple M Cairns team crowns the champions of Tammy’s Recycling Recruits

Cairns’ St Francis Xavier students have been crowned the champions of Tammy’s Recycling Recruits, taking out the top prize as 99.5 Triple M Cairns broadcast live from the school.

Triple M’s Tammy & JB were joined on-site by Northern Pride players, Roaming Wild and Cairns Regional Council Mayor Amy Eden, as students, parents and teachers came together to celebrate the school’s commitment to recycling.

Tammy’s passion for recycling inspiring her to create a competition to inspire the next generation and educate the important of keeping recycling out of waste.

Adding to the excitement, student Ashleigh walked away with $125 worth of fuel after winning the station’s daily ‘Beat the Bowser’ competition, while three other students took part in a game of endurance, holding a recyclable milk bottle above their heads for the chance to win a prize pack.

Mayor Eden praised the school’s dedication, telling students: “What absolute local legends you are. Every can, every bottle counts. You are awesome, keep up the good work. It’s really important to keep recycling out of waste!”

To cap off the morning, Tammy & JB officially awarded St Francis Xavier a $1,000 prize, in recognition of their outstanding efforts in promoting sustainable habits among their school community.

More than 22,000 bottles, glasses and cans were recycled in just two weeks as part of the recycling drive by Triple M, with more than 10 schools participating in the program.
