Triple M Newcastle dominates GfK Survey 1

Triple M 102.9 Newcastle‘s breakfast duo of Tanya Wilks and Steve Graham (pictured) celebrated a decade on air together last month. The pair and the station now have more to celebrate after further increasing their lead in GfK Survey 1, 2024. The station was up 3.0 to 23.3. Tanya and Steve were also up 2.3 to 24.5, nearly 10% ahead of nearest rivals Jess and Ducko at Hit 106.9.

SCA Head of Regional Content, Blair Woodcock, said:

“We have seen magnificent results in Survey #1 across Triple M and Hit Newcastle stations, with an incredible 68.8% of the 25-54 market represented across both stations.

“A huge congratulations to Triple M’s Tanya and Steve on celebrating 10 years on-air and 10 years as Newcastle’s #1 Breakfast show. Tanya and Steve have added an extra jewel to their crown by notching up their largest-ever audience at 114,000 people – proving Newcastle can’t get enough of this dynamic duo.

“The good news for Newcastle extends to the refreshed Hit Breakfast show, Jess and Ducko, which continues to grow its audience and claims #1 with people under 40 and F25-54.

“Congratulations to our entire team in Newcastle on these extraordinary results.”

SCA Chief Content Officer, Dave Cameron, said:

“Ten years on top, and today delivering an all-time record result is an incredible achievement for Newcastle’s radio royalty, Tanya and Steve on Triple M Breakfast, who continue to absolutely dominate Newcastle. Our huge congratulations today to this incredible partnership, that Newcastle continues to fall in love with.”

Hit was down in every day part with the exception of the networked Carrie and Tommy on Drive. Jess and Ducko became just a duo in 2024 when Nick Gill left. Theirs was the largest decrease on breakfast (down 1.2 to 14.7) aside from ABC Classic who fell from 2.9 to just 1.2.

2HD was up 1.0 in audiences 10+ and breakfast. 105.3 NEWFM remained third for all audiences 10+ just ahead of triple j. triple j and ABC Newcastle breakfast were both up to 10.0, with NEWFM breakfast fifth.

Triple M mornings with JR and afternoons with Sarah, local shows, were both up by more than 5 points.

Cumes saw decent growth for Triple M and Hit with average audiences mostly steady across the board.
