10 years of Tanya and Steve on Triple M Newcastle radio

Tanya Wilks and Steve Graham have celebrated a decade on air together on 102.9 Triple M Newcastle this week, with the anniversary the start of this year. As Graham said on social media, that’s a lot of 4am alarms!

The top rating pair have weathered a lot of highs and lows together. Wilks has been at Newcastle for more than 30 years, and in radio four decades, earning a Medal of the Order of Australia, OAM for service to broadcast media, and to the community in 2023. For twenty two of them she was paired on breakfast with David Collins, first at 2HD, then KOFM. She was at his side when he died from pancreatic cancer in 2018. Tanya and Steve shared a reflective conversation with Collins on Triple M in the weeks before his death.

Graham had been doing drive on KOFM before being asked by Wilks, his friend then of more than twenty years, if he’d join her on breakfast. KOFM became Triple M Newcastle at the end of 2018 with Tanya and Steve consistently leading in surveys of the area.

Graham was unwell at the start of this year, with a 19 day hospital stay delaying their on air return, which in turn pushed back the 10th anniversary acknowledgement. No longer. You can listen to highlights from the celebrations here.
