It has been three years since the last Xtra Insights survey of Broome and Port Hedland in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia, and Triple M 102.9 is still the No 1 station. However unlike last time when the station had dropped by 7% this time they’ve very nearly doubled their audience in some day parts. Robbie and Carly (Robbie Von and Carly Portch pictured main and below) for breakfast had 53.3% saying they listened to them most.
SCA’s other station Hit 101.3 was mostly steady, 25.4% audience listening most who were 10+ and 27.6 for Hit WA‘s Pete and Kymba with Ben Cousins on breakfast. In the Xtra Insights survey of Karratha just over a month ago, also with the same breakfast programs, the results were the opposite with Hit having half the audience and Triple M steady which shows that regionally the two stations resonate differently but are still getting around 75% of the audience ear.
SCA Head of Regional Content, Blair Woodcock, said:
“Today’s results clearly demonstrate SCA’s strength in regional Australia. The combined impact of the Triple M and Hit Networks is undeniable, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see our local teams’ hard work translate into such significant audience growth.”
It was again a difficult survey for the ABC. ABC Pilbara and Kimberley had 3.2 and 1.9 audience 10+ preference respectively. Both were down from 6% to 2% choosing their breakfast shows. Triple j fared the worst. Down from 17.5 to just 4.9 preferring the station. Breakfast was 15.7 and clear third in 2022. This time it was less than 5%. Cumulative figures suggest listeners of triple j have switched to Triple M.
