Like Hot Tomato on the Gold Coast yesterday, Triple M has maintained its No 1 position in GfK Survey 1 of Newcastle, pulling further away from the rest of the pack. This was a blind survey meaning that 12 weeks were measured and eight selected randomly of those.
Triple M led in every day part and on weekends. All grew their audiences significantly too, except weekends.
On breakfast most of the local stations saw some growth – NEWFM, Hit 106.9 and ABC Newcastle but so did Tanya and Steve at Triple M, Tanya Wilks and Steve Graham, by 3.3 to a 25.4% share of audience. Tanya, and breakfast shows she has been a part of in Newcastle, has been No 1 in the region for more than three decades.
The most improved of the rest was triple j. This was a return to where they were after a poor Survey 3 last year. Fellow SCA station Hit 106.9 also improved, dominating the 10-17 years demographic and up 0.8 to 15.7 in breakfast behind Triple M which will be positive for the new pairing this year of Jess Farchione and Rohan Edwards. Hit and Triple M have a collective cume audience on breakfast of well in excess of 200K, far beyond their competitors.
