FUNERAL DETAILS: MONDAY 22 NOVEMBER, 2PM at Macquarie Park North Ryde.
Chris Kearns passed peaceful away today after a short and hard-fought battle with Cancer aged 75.
Chris Kearns was one of a kind, working at 2SM, 2UW, 2UE, 2GB and more recently at Classic Hits 2CH.
Former colleague Tim Webster paid tribute to Chris saying “It was time for him to rest in eternal peace and hoped that they would play lots of Show Tunes up there, Chris was a good bloke who would do anything for anyone including mentoring any juniors who wanted to get into radio.”
Former boss Cherie Romaro says, Chris was unique in easy sense of the word, he took over from the legendary Bob Rogers in mornings on Classic Hits 2CH and did an outstanding job, he loved his beloved cat Joey and was a special generous friend to all that knew him and or worked with him VALE Chris Kearns.
Chris, who loved the horses, managed to stay with us until after the running of today’s Melbourne Cup, having picked Verry Eleegant to win. Chris was passionate about racing in Australia and worked at Sky Racing in the early 2000’s

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Chris Kearns. I first new of him as Christopher John and worked with him for some time at 2UE in the seventies. He was incredibly versatile as both a sport and music presenter and his knowledge of both was remarkable. I last worked with him briefly quite a few years ago at 2CH. He was totally professional, had a lovely dry sense of humour, was totally reliable and just an all round nice bloke. Chris was one of the best and will be missed by many.
Chris also was the booth announcer at ATN Channel 7 in the early 1980s. Here is a snippet of Mr Kearns' voice when ATN 7 closed transmission in 1983. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30rxMDId0rc&t=161s (URL starts 161 seconds into the video) . Voice quality was consistent over the years that I have heard Mr Kearns over the years till his last position taking over from Mr Bob Rogers.
Thank you,
Anthony of Belfield
