Vale Father Chris Riley

Father Chris Riley, the Sydney priest who launched Youth Off the Streets and a regular voice on radio has died in his sleep, age 70. Ben Fordham shared the news on 2GB this morning with Mark Levy.

Father Riley launched the charity in the 90s, delivering meals to disadvantaged youth experiencing homelessness. He would chat each Wednesday afternoon at 1.15 on with John Stanley on 2UE as well as a regular spot on 2CC in Canberra.

He was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in 2006, and in 2012 was the New South Wales Australian of the Year. Since 2020 he had stepped away from public life due to his health but remained a champion of providing opportunities to disadvantaged youth.
