Vale Garry Ord

Former ABC Broadcaster Garry Ord passed away on Saturday.
 
Best known as the host of the Hospital Hour from 1966 until the show finished airing in the mid 70’s, Garry began his radio career in Gippsland at 3TR in 1955 before moving to television at GLV-10 in 1961.
 
Shortly after joining the ABC in 1963, Garry took part in an exchange program with the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, before returning to Melbourne a year later, and then onto the ABC in Brisbane in 1965.
 
He released several books featuring a compilation of material used in The Hospital Hour, including The ABC Hospital Hour Friendship Book.
 
In 1989, he was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and awarded an OAM “for services as a radio and television broadcaster.
