Vale George Mihalos

George Mihalos passed away yesterday after a long fight with a recurring illness.

George worked in community and commercial radio for over 25 years starting his career at 2BCR and 2SSR Sydney before moving onto 2EC, PD at 2XL, Drive/APD/MD at 2CA, 2CC, Eagle FM and Lithgow’s 2LT/Move FM.

He won back-to-back ACRA’s in 2016 and 2017 for Best Music Special.

Capital Radio Group Program Director, Peter Davidson, says, “Yesterday we lost a colleague and a mate. You could put George in any role and he would succeed. His versatility as an announcer, in production and in programming is evident from the roles he held.

“It was difficult to not have George’s immense passion for radio and his dedication to his work rub off on you. An authentic communicator on-air and a creative flair which shined in everything he did. George was a gentle and kind soul with a wicked sense of humour that always had the office laughing.

“So dedicated was George that right up till the end he continued to produce sponsorship spots for 2SSR and music specials for the Capital Radio Network from his hospital bed.

“All of us at Capital Radio will miss our mate George.”

For the past year George also produced and presented a 2 hours weekly show on 2BACR 100.9FM called ‘retrospective’, the last show going to air last Friday.

The funeral for George will be held 9.00am Saturday 9th February at The Resurrection of Christ Greek Orthodox Church Kogarah with internment following at Rookwood Cemetery.
