Vale Neil Humphrys

Adelaide radio identity Neil Humphrys has passed away, aged 68.

Neil Humphrys worked in Adelaide radio from the late 1960s until recent years.

His first job in radio was at 5AU Pt Augusta. After a couple of years he moved to 5AD and held various shifts, including drivetime (4pm-8pm).

When he moved to 5KA he became popular for his country music segments, earning the nickname ‘Cowboy Neil.’ He was also a singer, recording a number of country music albums, including an popular album titled No Horse, No Hat.

He later joined 5AA, where he worked on air and as Program Director until the 1990s. He continued to be heard occasionally on 5AA doing guest spots, and was active in tv voiceovers and MC hsoting activities until his recent battle with cancer.

Neil retired to Victor Harbour in 2013.

Friends in the Adelaide radio industry remember him as a hard worker, a great supporter of charity, kind, fun and ‘a good bloke.’
