Peter Kukura was widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest radio producers and sound engineers. A quiet behind-the-scenes achiever who made his mark on the industry. He started his career in Perth at 6PR and 6IX in the 1970s, later moving to Melbourne to work at 3KZ and Fox, then to Sydney to work at 2Day FM and 2UE.

Paying tribute to Peter, Cherie Romaro said:

“Over a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, Peter has left an indelible mark on the Australian radio landscape.

“Peter’s journey began in Perth at Radio 6PR, where his innovative approach to station imagery in the 1970s set new standards in radio production. His creative vision continued to flourish at 6IX, where he uniquely crafted the station’s sound and image. His talents then took him to Melbourne’s legendary 3KZ and to the now-iconic FOXFM Melbourne, where his pioneering work helped define the station’s identity. In the early 1980s, Peter relocated to Sydney’s 2DAYFM, producing some of the most significant live radio concerts in FM Australian history.

“Trusted by world-renowned artists such as Elton John—who was the first major artist to personally approve Peter’s live concert mixes—Peter’s meticulous work brought the magic of live performances to listeners with unparalleled quality.  Peter’s versatility extended beyond music production. At Sydney’s top-rating news talk station 2UE, he served as producer and writer for the legendary John Laws for nearly a decade, further cementing his reputation as a master of his craft.

His creative influence also reached television with the long-running program *Juke Box Saturday Night*, which continues to be enjoyed by audiences on FOXTEL… As owner and manager of Jingle Machine, Peter contributed significantly to the production landscape in Sydney.”

Peter produced many award-winning productions, including:

  • The prestigious Radio Award for “Best Documentary” for his 1997 tribute series to broadcaster John Pearce, hosted by Bob Rogers on 2GB.
  • Commemorations such as the Centenary of ANZAC.
  • Production of the ANZAC Album in 1996
  • The emotional production ‘End of The Day’ about the Port Arthur massacre, for 2GB.

Peter is survived by his wife Molly and children Lissa and Jason.
