Vatican Radio chiefs face Jail over interference

Two Vatican Radio executives have been given 10 day suspended jail sentences because the radio’s transmitters create too much interference!

Cardinal Roberto Tucci and Father Pasquale Borgomeo will escape jail only if the electronic interference stops and they agree to pay compensation.

Lawyers for the two Vatican officials say they will appeal the ruling.

Giant transmitters, which beam program worldwide, are in Cesano, north of Rome. Local people have complained of electromagnetic pollution and serious health problems, including leukemia.

A Government investigation in 2001 found the magnetic fields exceeded standards and were much higher than the permitted six volts per square metre in 11 out of 14 sites checked.
