Virginia Trioli leaving ABC702 Sydney

Virginia Trioli has resigned from her position as presenter of the ABC 702 morning program to concentrate more on her tv work.

702 acting Station Manager Andy Henley has told radioinfo:

“We are disappointed that Virginia has decided not to be part of the station’s line up in 2008 but understand her need for a change and support her desire to concentrate on her work for ABC TV. We will now begin the search for a replacement who can continue to provide the Sydney community with the high standard of local information that they have come to expect.”

Trioli has been at the station for two years. In the last 12 months she has achieved an 8% share average, ranking the program second among talk stations across the year. Among her 35+ target audience, Trioli’s share has averaged 10.6% and her program was placed second in the market overall in 2007.

Trioli says:
“The past two years at 702 ABC Sydney have been a pleasure and a privilege. My greatest thanks go to the generous, diverse and well-informed 702 ABC Sydney audience for being such good company. After eight years on Local Radio it’s time for a change and time to focus on my other work with Sunday Arts and Lateline on ABC TV, so I’m not going too far.”

Virginia Trioli’s eight year career with ABC Local Radio has seen her present key shifts in on 774 Melbourne and 702 Sydney. The winner of two Walkley Awards for journalism, she has also worked as a news reporter, features writer, assistant news editor and columnist with The Age newspaper in Melbourne.

She will finish at 702 on Friday 14 Dec and ther network will go into Summer programming after that. A permanent replacement has not yet been named and will not start until the new year.
