The Voice skyrockets production music song to #1

Last night millions of Australians saw Brittany Cairns, 19 from Sydney, perform in the live rounds of Channel Nine’s The Voice. Brittany and her superstar coach Keith Urban, chose Different Worlds, originally used as a production music track in promos for the show. This morning Brittany Cairns version of Different Worlds hit number 1 on the Australian iTunes charts and propelled Jes Hudak’s original version to number 8.

Production music is not usually made available for sale to the public but the interest prompted production company Big Bang & Fuzz to make the track available for download through iTunes.

The track originally entered the ARIA charts when public demand was sparked by its use in Channel Nine’s promos for The Voice. Big Bang & Fuzz are glad they made it available because Different Worlds, upon first release, debuted as the highest new entry on the ARIA charts.

Choosing to sing a piece of production music was a surprising move given she was up against songs originally performed by artists from the likes of Jason Derulo, Gotye, David Guetta and Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Ed Sheeran.

The original track, featuring Jes Hudak on vocals, was produced and recorded by Selectracks in Los Angeles and is distributed in Australia by Big Bang & Fuzz.

Kerrie-Ann Sharpe from Big Bang & Fuzz has told radioinfo: “Obviously we believe in the quality of our production music and we work with a talented range of real deal artists, but none of us thought we would see two versions of a production music track shoot up the charts like this.”

The track Different Worlds was originally sourced from the ‘Singer Songwriter 4’ production album, which is part of the Selectracks ‘Song Catalog’ series. This label, one of several in the BBF range featuring indie bands, artists & singer-songwriters, covers styles including indie rock, alt-rock, big band, modern & classic soul, pop and hip-hop. For maximum production flexibility, most tracks are available in vocal and instrumental versions, with all tracks available for quick & easy licensing at regular production music rates.
