Waynee ‘Poo’ Roberts coming to River949 breakfast

Brisbane’s iconic radio personality Waynee ‘Poo’ Roberts, who commanded huge Brisbane audiences in the late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s is comings out of self retirement to join River949 from the beginning of April.

Roberts, who is well known in the Brisbane market for his famous gotcha calls, zany presentation and unpredictable style, will bring “a new dimension to the station’s popular 35-44 year old format.”

River949 General Manager David Greenwood announced Robert’s appointment to staff last Friday. He has told radioinfo he sees the timing of this move as opportunistic, giving the Ipswich station an edge whilst other Brisbane radio station’s currently bed in new teams and new talent after the shake up caused by the departure of Jamie Dunn to the Sunshine Coast.

“Our research clearly shows the enormous impact Wayne Roberts has with the listening audience, even today after his time away from the mic. The new show, with new input and some of the classic Wayne features, will be a great enticement to new listeners who have moved into our area in the past five years.

“Since repositioning River949 eighteen months ago, the radio station has built a solid listening base in the booming Queensland south-east corridor and we see the Waynee ‘Poo” appointment as vital to River’s evolvement. To have a proven performer present a stand-out Breakfast program with fun, entertainment, the right music blend with relevant information ingredients clearly will add great impetus and a lead in to our daytime programming. It will give River949 another point of difference and positive advertising sales opportunities.

“Reaction from advertising agencies and direct clients to Wayne’s joining the station has been extremely positive; more than we could ever have hoped for. Even at this early stage, we are seeing an inflow of new advertisers and high client interest.”
