The Weeknd leaves us breathless at No. 24: AirCheck

Chart Highlights  –  12 August 2021

  • Heating Up: The Weeknd’s ‘Take My Breath’ seals Top 40 debut.
  • High Point: Silk Sonic skates to No. 31 with 224 spins.
  • Biggest Mover: Local act SHOUSE stake their claim at radio, rising 83 spots.

The Weeknd makes a comeback on the latest AirCheck National Radio Airplay Chart with new single ‘Take My Breath’ debuting at No. 24. The single joins a long list of smash hits by the Canadian crooner, including former chart-topper ‘Blinding Lights’, which adds another 178 spins to its impressive lifetime tally of over 42,000 plays.

Incredibly, ‘Take My Breath’ notched a bigger opening chart week than ‘Blinding Lights’ did back in November 2019 (322 spins to 261 spins). Nova led the charge with roughly 64% of ‘Take My Breath’s total spins this week. KIIS Sydney/Melbourne and triple j were also on board the new single, which is expected to race up the chart over the coming weeks.

‘Skate’ by Silk Sonic, the superduo consisting of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, made a serious move this week, up 35 frames to No. 31. The Edge Sydney and the national Nova network helped the song improve its spin count by more than +146%.

Just below at No. 33 is another duo by the name of SHOUSE. The Aussie pairing have seen renewed popularity around their 2017 single ‘Love Tonight’, which breaks through the Top 40 thanks to Nova, The Edge and Fresh 92.7. SHOUSE is currently the sixth highest Australian artist on the chart behind Jolyon Petch, The Kid Laroi, Vance Joy, Tones & I and Dean Lewis.
