There may be great plans.
Has anyone thought of bias in thinking such as confirmation bias.
Management plan to do X. X consists of assuming that a certain demographic will listen to a particular song from a particular era.
There is a false assumption that listening to that particular song of thst era means the listener will recall other songs from that era and recall the lyrics of that song.
There is also a false assumption that a person will like a particular song of the era.
I add a corollary. In October 2023, Brent James on 2GB mentioned a list of songs that researchers found were worn out and thus have currently little air play. He mentioned that "The Voice" was worn out.
I believe there are songs that never were on the list and not worn out thus are never played or featured. Yet they have a great sound.
The listener may like show tunes. One does not hear them on air.
An illustration of not playing original artists were artists and orchestras playing cover versions of popular artists and yet attract listeners was the former 2CH in the 1970s and 1980s.
It had its tunes on high rotation but it is an illustration that not playing original artists does not diminish the number of listeners.
If you go down the well worn path of having a golden oldies or hits and menories or classic hits format may not mean success.
An reading of any ratings survey will show that those formats on 3MP. Magic 1278 2UE don't rate. Though 2UE has 8 times the audience it did when it was talking sport and lifestyle.
Please don't assume that the following tunes played in high rotation attracts listeners:
Sultans of Swing
Cherry Bomb
Old Time Rock And Roll
Sussudio
In Too Deep
Live It Up
It is an insult to those artists who sing many more great songs.
So if your hard work in research consists of producing confirmation bias, relying on a well worn path and not being bold to experiment, then you are doing the same thing without a change in the result.
Find out what the market is liking.
Thank you
Anthony, I listen to my mp3 player with a variety of tunes, I listen to 2UE and Coles Radio, Strathfield South in the land of the Wangal and Darug Peoples of the Eora Nation
Well the only radio station to play one of my songs, Hawkesbury Radio, was taken off air due to license breach only days after I got air play, I promise it wasn't my fault.
