WorldAudio secures Melbourne frequency

WorldAudio has been formally registered as the owner of Melbourne’s AM 1620 frequency.

The company’s directors received formal notification from the Australian Communications Authority yesterday that the broadcast licence (number 1130395) has been transferred from GB Radio to WorldAudio, ending a messy saga over ownership of the frequency.

WorldAudio has officially authorised its wholly owned broadcasting company, Radio 2, as the sole commercial broadcaster to use the frequency under section 114 of the Broadcast Services Act.

WorldAudio CEO, Andrew Peter Thompson, says: “This licence transfer represents the final piece in the foundation of a national commercial network of broadcast licences under the Radio 2 brand… Radio 2 will continue to provide a program format of news, music, entertainment, lifestyle and exclusive sporting events to a growing audience Australia wide.”
