Young FBi Journalist Wins a Walkley

Gina McKeon, a journalist contributing to FBi’s weekly program All the Best, has received the Walkley Award for Young Australian Journalist of the Year (Radio) and was Highly Commended in the general Young Journalist of the Year category.

Gina was among three finalists shortlisted from over 100 entries. The Walkley Award recognised her story on “The St Vincent’s Church in Redfern”, which was broadcast on FBi Radio. The Walkleys recognise the best of a new generation of journalists in the television, online, radio, photography and print categories.

 

FBi Radio’s President Cassandra Wilkinson said of Gina’s award “In the field of Australian journalism, it doesn’t get much better than winning a Walkley and it recognizes Gina’s incredible talent and community radio’s ability to produce and promote emerging talent.

 

All the Best is a Sunday morning program on FBi, dedicated to short form documentary stories about Sydney.

 

There were two other nominees for the Young Australian Journalist of the Year (Radio) Award: Julia Holman from 666 Canberra, for “Rural Reports”, and Mike Williams, for 360 Documentaries on Radio National, with the documentary “The Shearing Game”.
