Young tech presents Jonesy and Amanda with custom mics for being nice

Kyle Sandilands and John Laws have golden microphones, but that’s “so unoriginal,” according to WS FM’s Jonesy, who has just taken delivery of a chrome microphone. On air partner Amanda Keller also has a new mic, it’s wooden. The pair reckon the new mics make them sound so much better on air.

In fact the mics are not new but have been customised by ARN broadcast techician, 21 year old Joel Sutton, who has developed his own technique for turning ordinary mics into something special. He made them himself, paying for materials out of his own pocket, as a gift for the breakfast duo for, as he says, “being so kind to me.”

The mics are even engraved with their names.

Jonesy is convinced the chrome makes him sound better, and will prevent wrong time calls and word stumbles…so far so good after this morning’s show.
