The odds were egg-stremely small.
On GOLD104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show this morning producer Rio brought in a carton of regular eggs. Nothing amazing about that (except for the price of eggs at the moment!) but that carton, with its remaining 7 eggs had already produced FIVE DOUBLE YOLKS.
Rio told Christian that he had made scrambled eggs and every one of the five eggs used was a double yolker. Then he went on to crack the other eggs, live on the air, as everyone held their breath.
Then, it happened. 12 out of 12 eggs with double yolks.
According to Dr Karl Kruszelnicki the odds of getting just one double yolker in a dozen is about 1/1000. Work out then the odds of all 12 of them!
Rio said:
“The odds are [for 12 double yolks] and it’s a number I’ve never even heard because it’s a 1 in 1000 odds for any chicken to lay a single double yolker. So to get 12 in a row, I mean, I don’t even know what this word means, but it’s 1 in 1 undecillion.”
Christian:
“You’re 16 times more likely to win the lotto than getting a carton of 12 double yolkers.”
Egg-straordinary.
