A little over a year ago I had lunch with Nic Kelly at the appropriately named Island Radio shortly after Loren Barry had joined him as part of the Hit Network night program The Hot Hits.
He’d mentioned NZ born radio announcer, DJ, record producer, television presenter and creative director of Apple Music 1, Zane Lowe, a few times. Zane was what Nic aspired to be. Nic had reached out to tell Zane that and Zane had replied, starting a mentor like online conversation that had continued to then.
And beyond. Because today, Wednesday May 20, Zane co-hosted the show with Nic and Loren.

What a chat it was and you can hear how much Zane’s interview style has affected Nic’s own.
Zane talked about Australian talent he’s watching, his role in the music industry, the interviews that have stuck with him and why he doesn’t think he’ll ever chat with Beyonce, however much he’d like to.
Normally I would provide some of the transcript to the above, but I know how much Nic, Loren and Zane would want you to listen to this – so I’ll leave you to do that at your leisure.
Also, Chrissie Swan over on the Nova Network got to interview her No 1 dream guest, author, purpose coach and podcast host Jay Shetty this week too and the results of that were equally affirming.
That audio and story is also below. Both serve as a reminder that some people step into radio with their heroes other presenters who craft their connection with their audience in ways that have resonated across their lives. How lovely to hear them meet as equals.
