Zero truth in the Jonesy and Amanda Triple M rumour

The Australian’s  Media Diary gossip column today reported that Jonesy and Amanda could be “heading to a new timeslot or a new station.”

The report said: “Word is the head honchos at Gold are keen to replace the long-time pairing in their current timeslot by syndicating the network’s Melbourne breakfast show host, Christian O’Connell– and moving Jones and Keller to a national drive-time show. That’s if someone else doesn’t snap them up first.

“We hear the dynamic duo (or at least their agents) are currently in talks with Triple M about taking their breakfast show there and replacing the station’s current struggling offering fronted by Beau Ryan, Aaron Woodsand new recruit Cat Lynch.”

If anyone did reach out to Triple M on behalf of J&A, they were likely very quickly rebuffed by Southern Cross Austereo.

SCA’s Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron has told radioinfo:

“It’s categorically incorrect, we are focused on bringing new faces and new voices through to re-energise the industry.

“We’ve had multiple competitor shows reaching out to us, but we have our own strong plans in place.”

Cat Lynch recently joined Beau and Woodsy on Triple M Sydney breakfast, completing the current lineup.

While there is plenty of industry speculation about another networked breakfast show at ARN, with Christian O’Connell being touted as someone who could be syndicated into Sydney, radioinfo sources tell us that, given the current situation at KIIS Melbourne, there is very little appetite for overthrowing a successful Sydney show with a Melbourne networked program, even one as successful as Christian O’Connell.

The recent round of redundancies at ARN have caused instability and some paranoia at the network, presumably feeding the gossip that led to The Australian’s report. The gossip actually springs from the fact that it’s contract negotiation time at Gold 101.7 Sydney.

An ARN spokesperson has confirmed to radioinfo that the station is “currently in contract negotiations” with Jonesy and Amanda, and has “every intention for them to stay.”
