Zinc 96.1 launches new on air show with ex-AFL “Champion”

Zinc 96.1 have welcomed the newest show to the on air lineup, ‘Abbey & Champs’.

Joining co-host Abbey McKenzie is ex-AFL Brisbane Lions superstar Richard ‘Champs’ Champion.

Hitting the airwaves Saturdays from 8am to 10am, the Abbey & Champs show is a local lifestyle program focusing on all things Noosa, Gympie and the Cooloola coast.

Abbey brings a wealth of on air experience, previously being a breakfast show host in South Australia and recently being recognized for her work with an Australian Commercial Radio Award.

Richard Champion is well known for playing professional football with the Brisbane Lions AFL club and most recently working full time with the AFL players association. Champs’ professional speaking career spans over 20 years and emcees corporate, black-tie and motivational events. Champs is no stranger to the media scene, previously competing in the popular TV program ‘It Takes Two’ and has also represented the AFL on ‘Gladiators’.

Program director Ross Turner said the duo have great on air chemistry. “Champs will quickly become known as the guy with worse dad jokes than Shane Bourne…they’re that bad! Lucky he’s an awesome story teller as well! Abbey is just a gun! Online, on air, and the fact she doesn’t get Champs’ dad jokes makes for a beautiful on air partnership.”

Catch Abbey and Champs this Saturday from 8am or stream the show on radiozinc.com.au.
