Alongside the Triton Australian Podcast Ranker released each month, Radioinfo will now also include the monthly results for Australia and NZ from Podtrac. Launched back in 2005, Podtrac provides measurement and analytics for over a billion podcast downloads each month. Counts from Podtrac’s measurement system are IAB certified.
In Australia and NZ this means the inclusion of international podcasts like The Joe Rogan Experience. Podcasts don’t have to ‘opt in’ and measurement is across multiple sources. Further details on the podcast ranking methods can be found here.
The Podtrac Ranker for September 2024 looks quite a bit different to Triton’s. In Australia ABC’s Conversations is No 1 with the UK’s long running The Rest is History #2 in Australia and NZ. This podcast doesn’t feature on Triton’s Ranker.
No 1 in NZ is Newstalk ZB‘s breakfast host Mike Hosking‘s catch up radio podcast. Three of the top four is catch up radio and five of the top ten news podcasts.
The Australian top ten has seven different genres. Hamish Blake‘s How Other Dad’s Dad ranks four higher than the Hamish and Andy podcast which has been No 1 on the Australian Podcast Ranker for most of this year.
September was the finals for NRL and AFL and Podtrac’s ranker is reflective of that with SEN particularly benefitting with two of their programs in the top 20 as well as The Howie Games.
In New Zealand the independent breakfast show / podcast THE MORNING SHIFT run by the ex radio duo Brook Ruscoe and Jordan River is No 6. They’ve taken their Mai FM audience with them, and then some. Released at 6am Mon – Fri it’s one to watch of creative people blurring the lines of what podcasts can be.
