After the recent launch of Lenny.fm to support podcast creators, True Crime Australia, which covers a network of top podcasts including I Catch Killers with Gary Jubelin, Bronwyn and The Mushroom Cook, have launched a subscription offering on Spotify. This is, for my mind, is a logical next step for non catch up radio and independent podcasts to help monetise their products.
True Crime Australia have already seen great success with the Apple subscription channel Crime X Plus. They’re replicating this model to Spotify to give subscribing listeners early access to the suite of true crime serials and conversational podcasts as well as an ad free experience and bonus content.
The main reason I pay a subscription to Spotify is to enjoy music without ads. For the millions of Australian true crime fans out there a monthly fee for a premium experience using Apple or Spotify will be very tempting indeed.
