While Hamish and Andy sitting aloft the Triton Australian Podcast Ranker is no surprise, the surge in news podcasts from the ABC, SBS, Nine Radio, Sky News and Mamamia can probably be attributed to the start of The 2024 Paris Olympics. In August it is possible that ABC News Top Stories, leapfrogging Casefile True Crime to No 2, might just steal the No 1 spot.
Considering that Hamish and Andy released five episodes in July, normally their monthly listeners would be up around the million mark. Casefile True Crime, who released six in June and July, saw a drop of around 10% from last Ranker to this.
In the top 20 this month there were still two US podcasts, the highest, for the first time, Crime Junkie at #15. 7 of the top 20 are news podcasts, and all Australian and three are true crime. Those figures are usually reversed.
Sky News Australia Update, with sales representation by News Corp and Nova Entertainment cracked the top 10 for the first time. With Sky News Radio debuting as a DAB+ station this week, also partnering with Nova, this Ranker will be very pleasing to both parties. Nova Entertainment’s news podcast The Update also made the top 20 as well.
SBS News in Depth, after dropping considerably last month, surged back to No 58 in July, up 139 places. The highest debut was Nine Radio’s The Ultimate Sacrifice, at No 66. The Ultimate Sacrifice is 9News Queensland presenter Melissa Downes and producer Jessica Lodge second podcast together, following on from their multiple award-winning podcast Hannah’s Story, about the Wieambilla police shootings.
LiSTNR was Australia’s no. 1 sales representation podcast network for a record 23rd time. ARN/iHeart the No 1 podcast publisher.
