The NFL reaches the MCG on Friday September 11. Ahead of the milstone occasion, the podcast Armchair Experts has launched a miniseries uncovering the story behind this massive sporting event.
The first episode of Armchair Experts: California to the G features NFL Australia General Manager Charlotte Offord talking with sports broadcaster & host Cam Luke about the years of planning, negotiations and ambition to bring NFL’s first regular season game to Melbourne.
Guests scheduled to appear throughout the series include Victorian Minister for Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos, Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox, New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins and former AFL and NFL players Ben Graham and Arryn Siposs.

“Like all Australian sports and NFL fans, the idea that we would see an NFL game in our backyard never seemed realistic to me. The fact that it’s happening and how it came about, is a story that needs to be told, and I am honoured to be at the forefront of telling it. I was there in New Orleans when it was announced and can’t wait to be at the MCG with the other 100,000 fans on September 11 for the game!”
Armchair Experts is an AFL podcast and digital football show hosted by 2008 Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney and sports broadcaster Cameron (Cam) Luke. Originally a digital companion series for Channel 7, the show has evolved into a successful independent podcast known for its entertaining and uniquely Australian take on AFL.
The launch of California to the G also marks the start of Armchair Experts’ NFL coverage with iHeart, with a plan to release weekly NFL episodes alongside AFL content throughout the seasons, culminating in dedicated Super Bowl coverage in February.
