ABC‘s new comedy podcast The Grill brings three long-time mates together to air their most petty grievances – or “beefs” – and grill them. Each episode begins with, “What’s your beef this week?”
Hosted by besties Ben Ilobuchi, Izzy Wight and Tad Harawa, the podcast shows Gen Z is just as fluent in low-stakes cynicism as any generation before them and can dish up hyper-specific hot takes with the best of them.
Commissioned through the ABC’s New Wave program, the broadcaster is backing the next generation of comedy talent in this country. Instead of unpacking the heavy stuff, The Grill is more concerned with people who send voice notes over two minutes long. From Tad’s ongoing feud with fast food chains that won’t give him a straw, to Ben’s very specific beef with a pub worker who didn’t help him find his missing hat – no gripe is too insignificant to be grilled.
