Global Beat: Australia is showcasing a selection of new music played on community radio in Australia, on Southern California’s legendary KCRW.
Based in Los Angeles, public radio station KCRW is one of the most popular and influential tastemakers when it comes to music in US media.
The CBAA has partnered with the LA-based Australian Music Alliance and KCRW to produce the weekly show that is aired on the stations flagship program Morning Becomes Eclectic, and is hosted by CBAA Amrap Manager Andrew Khedoori with KCRW host Raul Campos.
Andrew says, “This is a great cross-cultural collaboration, arriving at a time of continually surging interest in Australian music from the US and when Australian artists can and should look to expand their pathways to recognition.
“The US radio market is so diverse that an artist can get some traction there. Global Beat: Australia marks the start of a stronger exchange between US public radio and community radio in Australia and highlights the great work community radio does here to expose and promote new and emerging Australian artists no matter what kind of music they make.”
Global Beat: Australia began on April 29 with a total of 32 episodes taking the series towards the end of 2021, and already some of the artists chosen for the series have gone on to receive further airplay at KCRW.
All the music played is sourced from Amrap (Australian Music Radio Airplay Project).
