SEN and Tim Watson congratulate Garry Lyon on induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame

Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) and SEN 1116am co-host Tim Watson have paid tribute to Garry Lyon on his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame, acknowledging Lyon’s integrity, influence and contribution to the game both on and off the AFL field.

A powerful and inspirational forward, Lyon played 226 games and kicked 426 goals for the Melbourne Football Club between 1986 and 1999. He captained the club from 1991 to 1997, then the longest-serving captain in Demon’s history, and was a five-time All-Australian, two-time club best and fairest, and a member of Melbourne’s Team of the Century.

Lyon has gone on to become one of the most respected voices in AFL media across television, in print and on the radio. Garry co-hosts SEN 1116am’s popular Melbourne-based breakfast program with fellow AFL great, Watson, together bringing humour and their love and knowledge for the game in every show.

Watson attended the awards night and said of his on-air partner:

“He was not only a great player for Melbourne, but also a great leader – and often through tough tumultuous times. He was also a proud and great State player, standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the game’s finest.

Beyond his playing days he has carved out a football media career that has seen him become one of the game’s most authoritative voices, and it is a privilege for me to work with him in that capacity on SEN.”

SEN CEO, Craig Hutchison, shared his congratulations too:

“Garry’s induction into the AFL Hall of Fame is long overdue and richly deserved. He has been a giant of the game — as a player, a leader, and now as a broadcaster. We are incredibly proud to have Garry as part of the SEN family, and congratulate him on this prestigious honour.”

Other inductees familiar to radio listeners include St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt, the Roo of Mick in the Morning with Roo, Titus & Rosie on Triple M Melbourne breakfast (above back row, centre), SEN regular Luke Hodge, the four-time premiership player (three as captain), three-time All-Australian and two-time Norm Smith Medallist, and Daisy Pearce and Erin Phillips, both parts of Triple M’s AFL coverage team.

SEN Breakfast with Garry & Tim can be heard on SEN 1116am or via the SEN App from 6 to 9am AEST, Tuesday to Thursday.
