Star 106.3 and Townsville’s “Tramp Champ,” Donny Watkin finally got his wish. After just 455 days, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli took to the top of Castle Hill to bounce alongside Donny after promising he would, in July 2024, if he won the election.
In fairness the Premier, who had told breakfast duo Archie and Donny he would do it within his first 100 days in office, has had mitigating circumstances, including Townsville’s devastating floods. But he kept his word.
When asked how the moment stacked up in his journey so far as Premier, David Crisafulli said:
“We’ve dealt with a few things a pretty major health crisis, put money into sorting out the ambulance ramping, brand new youth crime laws, which is very important, 100,000 new homes that we have delivered but none of those matters, I am about to bounce on a trampoline!”
Every time I’m up in Townsville, people ask me when I’m going to bounce with Donny. Townsville MP Adam Baillie’s kids won’t stop asking about it”
The long-awaited jump, held at sunrise, was also a going-away present for outgoing co-host Archie, wrapping up one the North Queensland duo’s adventures together with a bang and a boing.
Donny said:
“It’s been 455 days, a few floods, and a lot of reminders but today, the Premier finally bounced. To see it happen on top of Castle Hill, with Archie finishing his run on the show, it just felt like the perfect full-circle Townsville moment.”
Archie Arenson said:
“I was in complete shock, I had no idea this was happening today, but Donny busted into the studio and before I knew it, we rocked up on top of Castle Hill with two trampolines and a politician who needed to keep his promise.”
Archie starts on Drive on the Sunshine Coast’s 92.7 MIX FM with Henry Bretz in early November.
