Former ABC Brisbane presenter and producer Vicki Martin died on February 2, aged 59.
Vicki was a friend to many, mentor to colleagues and intrepid traveler. Her goal was to visit 60 countries by 60 and had already exceeded that, as well as most every corner of Australia.
Spencer Howson said:
“Vicki was an extraordinary woman, and I consider myself fortunate to have shared the airwaves with her at 612 ABC Brisbane.
She was hard-working and creative in audio-editing and live broadcasting, she was community minded in everything she did, and she was a collector of friends all over the world.
Originally a print journalist in Gladstone, radio was lucky to have Vicki Martin for 20 years, but she always had so much more to do.
It’s impossible to mention everything that Vicki was involved with, but to name just one, I know she was proud of her support of our Paralympians.
In a message to me this week, three-times Paralympian Gerard Gossens said she “made a significant contribution to the Paralympic movement”.
Vicki will be missed be many and never forgotten.”
Below is Vicki’s memories of her time on Weekend Breakfast on ABC Brisbane that she recorded for the station’s 100th birthday last July.
